Is this normal chicken behavior?

Post by Kimberley »

Hi,

About 3 weeks ago I found half eaten mouse in my barn.About week later found another one.Yesterday I watched 1 of my hens go into barn and get perch up above where I found mice.It seemed a little odd to me that she was just sitting in there while rest of flock was roaming around yard.I could see her thru my bedroom window so every so often I would look out to see what she was doing. After about 3 hours of sitting perfectly still she swooped down out of my sight.

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.

Chickens will eat small animals like crickets, worms and roaches. I reckon a mice can do nicely with these folks. From my experience, free range chickens are notorious for fighting over such small grubs.

Chickens need protein in their diets. They get these from worms and insects. Chickens may need up to 18% crude protein in their diet and might as well supplement this themselves by looking out for that. See this site for more details on the protein requirement of chickens.
