Taraba Greenhouse Project

In the news Taraba State government has commenced greenhouse agriculture. Is there any technical information that one can use to determine the long term viability of the project? it appears the project is doing well. The cucumbers look really healty as the one would come across in Argos or Sainsbury in the UK

this is good. How many crops are grown in there? I reckon vegetables will be more suited for this kind of stuff.

Actually greenhouse technology is in the country. For example Dizengoff farmers Kit enable farmers produce high quality, fresh tomatoes all year round in Nigeria. You can grow up to 4 tonnes of tomatoes in a 6-month season from a single (8m x 24m or 192m2) greenhouse. Unlike the traditional open field tomato cultivation which can net a maximum of 7 tonnes per 10,000m2 (i hectare).

Travelling to Taraba recently, I went to see things myself. Though I could not enter, I have made contacts with a view of taking a tour inside the place before I leave. It's quite a large place.

Did you know that California, which is almost a drought ridden state is one of the largest economies in the world compared with countries and part of this is from agriculture?

I don't know how Nigeria with 20m cows will be importing 95% of our milk needs, or be importing apples and grape from South Africa, bananas from cameroun... Did you know avocado pear is the new gold? People on Kenya are removing coffee plants and replacing them with avocado pear. Yet they rot in Jos. The list is endless. It is shear madness that agriculture is neglected in this country... Shear madness.
