Nigeria attempted to export some yams a while back, i was one of those that was euphoric. But alas, then the controversy of the quality that arrived at USA. some say it was because of the meandering journey undertaken by the shipping company that led to the yam getting bad, some say it was propaganda by nay sayers. Whatever it is, i we want to play in the big league export food produce, it is so crucial that stringent export quality is met. indeed quality is quality irrespective o whether it is to be eaten here or exported.

Agriculture experts challenge government on quality of produce, Ways Nigeria can project her unique agriculture produce in the international market to create a multiplier effect on farmers particularly those in rural communities was the focus of a meeting on Nigeria’s geographical indicators in Abuja where lead speakers challenged government to ensure produce from the country are of high quality in view of the huge benefits local products entry across the globe.

The Nigerian government continues in its efforts to open up alternative sources of revenue generation for the country, many agree that agriculture sector is a ready option.

This meeting is adding its voice to the calls to make agricultural produce that are peculiar to localities around the country available on the international market.

These experts observed that while other countries around the world are playing big on the international market scene with their products, Nigeria has not fared well even with so much to offer with unique innovations across the geopolitical zones. They want the narrative changed.

The recent embarrassment the country faced with the export of yam which went bad when it got to its destination was also discussed at this meeting with a consensus that Nigeria must prioritize its quality control mechanism.

Engagements such as this is seen as one that can help redirect the country in its journey to self sufficiency.
